Allison and Brandon Earn NYSSMA Recognition!

Earlier this month, two of our Wheatley student-musicians were selected as 2018 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State musicians. These students were chosen out of thousands of students who auditioned for this honor at solo and ensemble festivals throughout New York State last spring.

Congratulations to Allison Keller (viola) and Brandon Zhu (violin). Allison will play with Symphonic Orchestra at the NYSSMA All-State conference in December, and Brandon will serve as an alternate.

Camellia, Amanda and Justin Named NYSSMA All-State Musicians!

Earlier this month, the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) named three Wheatley students All-State musicians!

Congratulations to:

  • Camellia Ye, Junior (cello)
  • Amanda Kim, Junior (cello)
  • Justin Vega, Senior (violin)

Students earn NYSSMA recognition through the various NYSMAA festivals held around the state in the spring. Approximately 6,500 student musicians are evaluated during this process, with roughly 900 earning All-State recognition.

Camellia will play with the Symphonic Orchestra at the NYSSMA All-State Conference in Rochester later this fall, with Amanda and Justin serving as alternates.

Wheatley Musicians Recognized by NYSSMA!

Last month, three Wheatley students were recongnized by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) for their outstanding musicianship.

  • Congratulations to Wheatley senior Lauren Levine who was named a NYSSMA All-State musician.  Lauren, an Alto I, was selected to perform with the Women’s Chorus.
  • Congratulations to Wheatley junior Justin Vega who was named a NYSSMA All-State musician. Justin, a violinist, was selected to perform with the Symphonic Orchestra.
  • Congratulations to Wheatley junior Emily Wang, a violinist, who was named an alternate All-State student-musician.

The students will be performing in Rochester, New York on December 1-4, 2016 at the NYSSMA All-State Conference.

Justin, Emily and Lauren have been recognized by NYSSMA

Morgan, Michelle and Jessie named NYSSMA All-State Musicians!

Last month, the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) announced the 2015 All-State musicians. Three Wheatley students were identified as NYSSMA All-State musicians!

Congratulations to senior Morgan Misk (Soprano II in the Mixed Chorus), junior Michelle Lin (Alto II in the Women’s Chorus) and senior Jessie Cao (alternate selection for Violin). The students will be performing at the 2015 NYSSMA Conference in Rochester on December 3-6, 2015.

Wheatley Student Musicians Recognized

Earlier this month, two Wheatley seniors, Kuan Yu and Alexandra Boubour, were recognized as All-State musicians by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA). Kuan was recognized for his work with the viola while Alex was recognized for her vocal talents. As part of this recognition, Kuan and Alex will represent Wheatley at the NYSSMA Conference in Rochester beginning 4 December.

Congratulations as well to Wheatley senior Jillian Gothelf for her selection as an All-National alternate for the Mixed Chorus Ensemble as an alto by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).  NAfME holds its All-National Ensemble concerts in Nashville, Tennessee during October 26-28.

NYSSMA Recognizes Five Wheatley Students!

Five Wheatley students were selected by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) to represent Wheatley in the All-State Conference in December. Please join me in congratulating:

It should be noted that Kristen was selected in two different areas! We are proud of the individual work of these students and the collected efforts of our Music Department.
