There was plenty of athletic activity during our Homecoming 2018 Celebration at the end of last month. As part of the activity, our varsity tennis team competed against Friends Academy. Fortunately, our friends at Island Photography were there to capture the action!
Our Homecoming Celebration was a terrific blend of athletics, food and family fun! On an absolutely gorgeous Saturday, our teams competed in tennis, volleyball, soccer, cross country and football. Our student clubs and our cheerleaders helped support the activities for the community.
As the athletes were competing, community members enjoyed a wonderful International Food Court, music and some bouncy houses! There were a few key folks who helped to bring this event together:
- Our Cultural Initiatives Committee for organizing the International Food Court
- Todd Richman and our Wildcat Foundation for raising funds to support the event
- Michael Scatturo, our district Athletic Director, for overseeing all of the events
[Thanks to Mr. Scatturo for some of the photos!]
Our Homecoming celebration kicked off on Friday afternoon with an end-of-day Pep Rally that included a fundraiser for the Red Cross Hurricane Relief. Organized by our Student Senate, the pep rally was a terrific combination of spirit, fun and community service!
With students decked out in Red, White or their team uniforms, our Fall athletic teams were introduced by the team captains, with music provided by our Jazz Band and our student group “The Moondogs.”
Inspired by last year’s fundraiser for Puerto Rico, the Student Senate organized a “Pie a Teacher in the Face” fundraiser. As part of this fundraiser, students raised funds to earn the right to “pie” a selected teacher in the face. At the end of the challenge, students managed to raise nearly $1,300!
The National Anthem was performed by Emma Melnikov and signed by Charlotte Goldbaum. The Wheatley PTO supported the pie in your face fundraiser.
Thank you to Ms. Chanin-Bermudez, our Student Senate Advisor, for her work on the wonderful event. Thank you as well to the following faculty members for taking up the Pie in the Face Challenge:

Our Homecoming Celebration was a terrific blend of sports, entertainment, food, games and even some fundraising! At Wheatley, Homecoming kicked off with our Pep Rally on Friday afternoon. Organized by our Student Senate, the Pep Rally featured our incredible Jazz Band (under the direction of Steve Fitzko), the introduction of our Fall teams by Student Senate members, and a Teacher v. Student “Pie in the Face” challenge that raised over $8,200 for Puerto Rican relief! You can see some photos and videos of the wonderful Pep Rally at #Homecoming2017 Kicks off with a Pep Rally and a Fundraiser!
After the Pep Rally, our Tri-M Music Honor Society presented “Rocktoberfest” for the community, a combination of music, seasonal activities and wonderful food! You can see some photos from this new event at Tri-M’s “Rocktoberfest” Celebrates Music and the Season!
On a lovely Saturday morning and afternoon, Wheatley volleyball and soccer teams competed. As the athletes were competing, community members enjoyed a wonderful International Food Court, DJ music and some bouncy houses!
