From February 4th through 6th, members of Wheatley School’s World Affairs Club attended The Boston University’s Model United Nations Conference (BosMUN Invitational), at the Marriot Copley Place Hotel in Downtown Boston.
Our seniors, juniors, sophomores, ninth-graders and eighth-graders worked tirelessly throughout this very busy conference in chilly Boston. The conference included students from all over the United States and the world. Individuals and teams of two were assigned different nations and committees whose topics ranged from historical crises to real-world conflicts dealing with healthcare, military coups, environmental issues, economics and finance, US Congressional debates, and human rights issues.
The team performed extremely well, winning multiple awards and honorable mentions as they debated, argued, drafted proposals, and lobbied other committee members to support their plans.
- Riya Mittle: Outstanding Delegate
- Charlotte Ianonne: Best Position Paper
- Joyce Chen: Best Position Paper
- Mahdi Bhalloo: Honorable Mention – Verbal Commendation
- Ben Cassella: Honorable Lawyer for SCOTUS
We are so proud of our team’s passion for global affairs and their public speaking and debating skills. A huge “Thank You” to the World Affairs Club co-advisors, Andrew Ardito and Courtney Clarke for helping to prepare the students for the conference and guide them in Boston. Thank you as well to Birthe Seferian for serving as an additional chaperone on the trip.
Thank you to Andrew Ardito for the write-up and photos!
