On Friday, 29 January, six Wheatley juniors participated in the the annual Student-Athletes as School Leaders Conference. Normally an all-day affair at Hofstra University, this year’s conference was held as a Virtual Conference using Zoom. Organized by the Nassau County High School Principals Association and the Nassau County Physical Education Consortium in partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance, the purpose of this conference is to celebrate, support and encourage positive student leadership throughout Nassau County school districts.
Through virtual breakout rooms, student-athlete leaders had the chance to meet some of their counterparts from other high schools and share ideas about the meaning and significance of leadership.
The Wheatley students selected to participate in this conference were:
- Alexis Burke
- Gabriel Fallarino
- Benjamin Gold
- William Karikas
- Emmie Keys
- Caroline O’Brien
The keynote speaker at this year’s conference was Monica Livingston, an educator, business owner and former professional athlete. She spoke about the importance of leadership, establishing and maintaining your own personal “brand” as a leader, and the importance of lifting everyone up.
