Every June, the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents hosts a “Celebrating Excellence” breakfast recognizing the Valedictorians and Salutatorians of all of Nassau County’s public high schools. Although Wheatley does not name a valedictorian or salutatorian, we send two Honor Students to represent our school at this wonderful event. These Honor Students are selected by the Wheatley Scholarship Committee, and they are identified using the criteria of high academic achievement and outstanding ethical behavior. Although the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the breakfast from being held, students were still recognized with a lovely plaque and program.
This year’s Honor Students were Jason Koty and Sharon Zhong!
Both Jason and Sharon have demonstrated outstanding academic performance across a wide range of courses in their years at Wheatley, having taken some of the most demanding courses at Wheatley. Both Jason and Sharon have been active in Wheatley’s extracurricular life, contributing so much to the life and culture of our school. We are thankful for all they contributed to our school and community over the years.
Although they did not get to have an early morning breakfast with me and Dr. Kanas, I surprised them with a late morning delivery of their plaque!
Congratulations to Jason and Sharon for this well-deserved recognition!
