The penultimate award given during the Academic Awards Evening is the PTO Student Recognition award.
The purpose of this award is to recognize two deserving seniors who exhibit the qualities we value and encourage in our young people:
- Kindness, respect, and tolerance for self, others and the environment
- Good judgment and decision making
- High ethical standards and character
- Courage to overcome obstacles
- Good citizenship
- Dependability and helpfulness
These awards were presented by our PTO past-president, Mrs. Diane Cumming. Here is what was said about this year’s recipients:
This first recipient of the PTO Recognition Award has left an indelible mark on our school and community. His legacy is one of unwavering commitment to service and volunteerism. The Environmental Action Club has been deeply and forever strengthened by his dedication to recycling and sustainability. Additionally, he has served as Treasurer for ICU, NHS and EAC! An outstanding planner, it seems natural that he is preparing to embark on a study of urban planning in college. Before he leaves Wheatley, we must take a moment to thank him for all he has done—never seeking any accolades, but simply doing what he felt was his civic duty.
On behalf of the Wheatley PTO, it gives me great joy to present the PTO Recognition Award to Brenden Resnick.
The second recipient of the PTO Recognition award is one of the most genuinely kind and down to earth students to have ever graced the halls of Wheatley. She relishes the opportunity to help children by volunteering her time with Hand in Hand, an organization that spends time with children in homeless shelters. She has also partnered with the International Rescue Committee to help run a camp for refugee children. A thoughtful scholar and a fierce competitor on the soccer fields, she was a key member of our championship Mock Trial team.
It is an honor to award Rebecca Sparacio with the PTO Recognition Award.
