Wheatley Track and Field Athletes Run to Support Kids Across the Country!

Despite the 2020 spring season being canceled because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Wheatley Track and Field athletes are finding ways to help during these challenging times while still staying in shape!

During the final week of April, members of the Wheatley Track & Field team joined high school, college and club runners across the country to participate in Run Against Hunger’s first-ever virtual Run-A-Thon. The money raised through Run Against Hunger went directly to No Kid Hungry, a nonprofit campaign run by Share Our Strength that is working to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States by providing meals, food skills education and advocating for policy change. Currently No Kid Hungry is helping schools and community groups feed kids while schools are closed due to the COVID-19 crisis.

With individuals pledging to donate per mile run, the Wheatley Run Against Hunger team logged 384 total miles over the 7-day span, raising $1000 in the process! That total ranked them 5th among all participating high school teams but more importantly, this group found a way to help those in need in a safe and productive manner. The Run Against Hunger campaign raised over $90,988!
