Last Sunday, 20 Wheatley students (and three chaperones) departed for a 9-Day adventure in Peru. On the fourth day of the trip, the students began the longest part of the adventure: their stay in Lima.
Some of the updates include (in Mrs. Anderson’s words):
Upon arrival in Lima
Today was a most incredible day! Most started the day at the market buying colorful ponchos, souvenirs and gifts. I wish you could have seen and heard the students’ reactions upon our arrival at the school! It was truly a joyous, emotional moment. The moms provided a delicious buffet lunch and everyone was so happy to be able to eat salad and fresh fruit again. They all connected and played volleyball until the host parents arrived for pick up. There were so many smiles and so much laughter that it reminded Jason, Arlene and me what this is all about. The kids are either in their “homes” or out with their host families tonight. I hope you hear their excitement in their communications with you.
On their first day with our Sister School, Colegio San José de Monterrico in Lima.
After a spectacular welcome with students performing a variety of traditional dances, some welcoming statements from the administration and a student representative, our very own Rahul was asked to address the 400 SJM students attending the assembly. He thanked them for the experience and continued to speak about what the experience has meant to him and our group as a whole. He did this without any time to prepare and he represented us well. Kudos, Rahul! All of this took place in a courtyard with a view of the mountains. We spent the rest of the day in classes. Although Jason, Arlene and I were not able to visit all classes we were able to observe some of the activities and chat with the kids during recess and after school.
Some of the students and chaperones shared the following videos and photos:
