On Wednesday, 6 February, the editors and writers for Wheatley’s Wildcat Newspaper attended the annual Press Day at Adelphi University. The day permits students across Long Island to learn from newspaper and magazine editors, reporters and writers about the ever-changing world of media.
A highlight of the event is the presentation of the Quill Awards, which provide recognition to outstanding student writers, editors and newspapers.
Wheatley was recognized in several of the categories, including:
Best Online Newspaper
- First Place: The Wildcat (https://wheatleywildcat.org/)
Best Arts Review
- Second Place: Jacob Ribotsky (“A Brief History of Colonization: A Heart-Wrenching Story Made Fun”)
Best Opinion Piece
- Second Place: Kenton Wu (“Contingency Plans for December 15th”)
Congratulations to the entire Wildcat staff! Particular thanks to Jennifer Fatone and Jo Beth Roberts for their work with the students.
