Ananya Bansal Named a Candidate in the 2018 Presidential Scholars Program!

Wheatley senior Ananya Bansal has been named a candidate in the 2018 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program by the United States Department of Education. She is one of approximately 4,000 candidates selected from the nearly 3.2 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in 2018.

Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, now in its 54th year, is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a graduating high school senior. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.

The initial candidate group of approximately 4,000 candidates were selected for their exceptional performance on either the College Board SAT or the ACT Assessment. A distinguished panel of educators will review the submissions and select semifinalists in early April.

Finally, the Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of up to 32 citizens appointed by the President, will make the final selection of the scholars. The U.S. Department of Education will announce the scholars in May.

Congratulations to Ananya! We wish her the best as she advances in this program!
