Earlier this week, Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello awarded Wheatley students Madeline Lindenauer, Grace Quinn and Sage Silber a Legislative Citation in recognition of their earning of a Silver Badge.
To achieve their Silver Badge in the Girl Scouts, these three ninth graders worked together to create some “Birthday in a Box” packages. These individual customized gift boxes containing several presents for a number of foster children in the care of the Nassau County Department of Social Services (DSS).
Each of the girls raised their own funds to purchase the gifts, and DSS provided them with the names, ages and gender of those foster children having upcoming birthdays.
At the end of September, the students were thanked by Dr. John Imhof, Commissioner of Nassau County DSS, Paul Broderick, DSS Deputy Commissioner and DSS Volunteer Coordinator Lynne Campbell.
Congratulations to the students for achieving their Silver Badge status, and thank you to them for looking out for some of our neediest citizens!
