Samantha Hurtado Commits to Philadelphia University!

The Wheatley Athletic Program is honored to recognize the accomplishments of Samantha Hurtado. Samantha has signed a letter of commitment to continue her impressive academic and athletic career at Philadelphia University, in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Samantha is a returning five-year starter and captain for the Wildcats Softball team. Last season, she earned her third consecutive “All-County Honorable Mention” recognition by the Nassau County Softball Coaches Association. This year as a senior, Samantha, has earned “All-County” recognition. As one of our most versatile players, Samantha has played third base, pitcher, catcher and shortstop for the Wildcats.  Samantha has proven to be a major contributor in all her seasons, leading the team in most offense categories during her junior and senior year.  Her knowledge of softball also extends to younger, less experienced players, as she guides and teaches them at practices and games.

Samantha’s outstanding transcript speaks for itself. Her outstanding efforts in the classroom, as a member of the National Honor Society, and on the athletic fields, demonstrate an exceptional student-athlete.  With all that Samantha does in the classroom and on the softball field she still finds the time to participate in community service and volunteer her talents to help others, as seen within the East Williston Little League softball teams.

In April, Samantha signed her Letter of Intent to attend Philadelphia University to compete in softball. She was also featured in a Newsday article.  Her combined athletic and academic scholarship will allow Samantha Hurtado to continue her pursuit of excellence. We are all very proud of her. Congratulations to Samantha and her family.

Thanks to Tom Fitzpatrick for the write-up!
