Back in October, Steven Dodge spoke to all our juniors and seniors about his experiences as a recovering addict. Steven, the founder of The SLATE Project, has committed his life to educating youth about the dangers of drug addiction and to support recovering addicts. Steven’s October presentation resonated so well with our students and staff that we decided to invite him back to speak with parents. He agreed to do so and suggested that his mother, Lori, join him.
Last night, to a well-attended audience consisting of parents and children from three local school districts, Steven and Lori spoke honestly about the challenges of life with an addict. It was an amazing presentation that highlighted the need for everyone in the community to be mindful and supportive of each other. Addiction can strike any family, so we all have a responsibility to each other.
This presentation was part of an ongoing K-12 district initiative to educate and inform our students and community in a variety of ways. Thank you to Greg Wasserman, our Director of Guidance, for coordinating this event with our District Educational Advisory Committee and PTOs!
