On Saturday, 28 January, five Wheatley students competed at the Long Island Regional Science Bowl. This competition, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy, tests students’ knowledge in all areas of the sciences and mathematics.
Despite this being the first year Wheatley was able to compete in this competition (due to conflicts with other science competitions), the team blazed through the first round undefeated. Wheatley’s team then progressed all the way to the championship round against Great Neck South High School.
Wheatley science research teacher and Science Bowl advisor Alexis Blondrage explained:
After a valiant effort and stunning performance, Wheatley was narrowly defeated by only a few questions.
In the end, the Wheatley team came in second place for the entire region. Congratulations to team advisor Ms. Blondrage and to team members: juniors John Li (Captain) and Elan Mizhiritsky, sophomore Vedant Singh and ninth graders Karen Li and Rebecca Sparacio. Congratulations on a job well done!
Thanks to Ms. Blondrage for the picture and the write-up!
