Congratulations to Jack Keys, Wheatley’s 2017 Geography Bee Champion!

Earlier this week, eleven of our 8th Grade students competed in the final round of the National Geography Bee in order to determine who would represent Wheatley in the next round of the competition.

After in-class preliminary rounds (held in Social Studies 8 classes), the following eleven students qualified for the Wheatley Final Round:

  • James Dearborn
  • Joseph Doria
  • Jack Keys
  • Frederick Lin
  • James Lopes
  • Eric Ness
  • Dalia Savy
  • Andrew Thaler
  • Peter West

Congratulations to eighth grader Jack Keys, this year’s Geography Bee champion and runner-up, eighth grader Eric Ness.  The National Geography Bee took place on Wednesday, January 31, 2017 where 11 students competed.  The eleven students initially competed in their social studies classes, allowing them to move on to the finals on Wednesday. Eventually, Jack and Eric were the only students standing! During the final round, Jack edged out Eric for the victory! Congratulations to Jack on being designated as Wheatley’s Geography Bee Champion for 2017!

Thank you to Dr. Richard Shear, our interim Social Studies Chair, for hosting the final round, and thank you to all of the teachers (Mr. Patrick Clarke, Mr. Matt Haig, Mr. Michael Haig, Mrs. Cindy Schwartz and Mrs. Gena Topping) for supporting this competition in their classrooms.
