The Wheatley School Physical Education Department is proud to announce that seniors Brianna O’Brien and Michael Mongelluzzo have been selected as Outstanding Physical Education Students. Criteria for their selection included:
- exceptional performance in physical education
- leadership qualities and
- service to the Wheatley school-community
Brianna and Michael were honored with other Nassau County high school students at an awards banquet held at the Crest Hollow Country Club on December 12, 2016. The awards program is sponsored by the Nassau Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
Brianna has maintained a 3.98 grade point average throughout her high school years. As a physical education student, Brianna’s test scores, skill development and attitude have been exemplary. She has had a high profile in a variety of school activities. Brianna has been a member of the winter indoor track team, spring track and field team and captain of the cross country team, where she has received numerous awards for spirit, leadership and scholarship. This year, in her first year running cross country, she finished second in the NYSPHSAA Class C Championships and was named Newsday’s Top Female Cross Country Runner in Nassau County. Incredibly, she finds time in her busy schedule to volunteer for many worthy causes such as St. Aidan’s and Future Stars Soccer Camp.
Throughout his high school career, Michael has demonstrated outstanding athletic and scholastic ability and has earned a well-deserved reputation as a leader among his peers. His fitness scores and skill development in our Physical Education program have been outstanding and his enthusiasm for learning is greatly admired. He has been involved in many athletic activities during his four high school years, competing on the defending Nassau County and Long Island Class B Championship Baseball team. While maintaining a rigorous academic program, Michael has attained a cumulative grade point average of 3.32. Michael has served as a member of the Key Club and Yearbook.
The Wheatley School is extremely proud of Brianna and Michael for their commitment to excellence.
