On Friday, two of our district students were awarded gold and silver medals for their performance in the Italian Poetry Competition sponsored by the Long Island Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Italian.
Congratulations to Patrick Brady, an eighth grader at Wheatley, who won first place for his recitation of “Carnevale” by Gianni Rodari and to Joseph Doria, a seventh grader at the Willets Road School, who won the silver medal for his recitation of “La Foglia” by Umberto Saba. What an outstanding accomplishment for both boys!
Other participants in the competition included: 8th graders Eliana Li and Victoria Mora, 9th graders Francis Cappi and Anthony DiFiore and 10th grader Eva Suppa. Thank you to our Italian teachers, Diana Kesselman and Susan Vasselman for encouraging and preparing our students so well for this competition!
[Thanks to Mrs. Vasselman for the write-up and photos!]
