Wheatley Brainstormers Advance to History Bowl Nationals!

On Saturday, 21 December, nine members of the Wheatley Brainstormers Club participated in the National History Bee & Bowl Regional Competition at White Plains High School. The team was accompanied its faculty advisor, Joseph Crotty. As a result of the team’s strong performance in this competition, it qualified for the national competition in Washington, D.C. This is the fourth consecutive year that the team has qualified for the national competition!

The varsity team consists of:

  • Gabriel Besada
  • Mohammad Khanzada (Captain)
  • Christopher Shen
  • Jake Williams

Other Wheatley students participating in the competition were:

  • Rahul Ajmera
  • Adeel Anwar
  • Peter Cuomo
  • Karen Li
  • John Li

At the same time, Mohammad Khanzada participated in the National History Bee (individual competition) and qualified for Nationals once again! This is Mohammad’s 4th straight year captaining the team competition and his 3rd straight year advancing to the National Championships as an individual.

Additionally, Rahul Ajmera and Peter Cuomo qualifyied for the US Geography Olympiad Nationals. Rahul and Peter took an exam along with 37 other students from 8th, 9th, and 10th grade. Their achievement is especially impressive because they are still in 8th grade and they were competing against students 1 and 2 years older than them.

The National Competition will be held on April 22-April 24, 2016 in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA. The team will also be competing in another regional competition to hone their skills in preparation for Nationals.
