The Wheatley School Physical Education Department is proud to announce that seniors Cara Mattioli and Matthew Kelapire have been selected as Outstanding Physical Education students. Criteria for their selection were exceptional performance in physical education, scholarship, leadership qualities, and service to the Wheatley school-community. Cara and Matthew were honored for their selection at an awards banquet that was held at the Crest Hollow Country Club on December 14, 2015. The awards program is sponsored by the Nassau Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
Cara has maintained a 4.04 grade point average throughout her high school years. As a physical education student, Cara’s test scores, skill development and attitude have been exemplary. She has had a high profile in a variety of school activities. Cara is involved with the Art Club and Book Club. Cara has been a member of the softball team and captain of the volleyball team, where she has won numerous awards for spirit, leadership and scholarship. In addition, she led the volleyball team to Wheatley’s first Class C County Championship. Incredibly, she finds time in her busy to schedule to volunteer for many worthy causes; such as Hurricane Sandy Relief, the Polar Plunge and Autism Walks.
Throughout his high school career, Matthew has demonstrated outstanding athletic and scholastic ability and has earned a well-deserved reputation as a leader among his peers. His fitness scores and skill development in our Physical Education program have been outstanding, and his enthusiasm for learning is greatly admired. He has been involved in many athletic activities during his four high school years, competing in soccer and golf. He is an original member and founder of the roller hockey team that competes in Nassau County. While maintaining a rigorous academic program, Matthew has attained a cumulative grade point average of 3.6. Matt is involved with the Creative Arts Program at Willets Road School.
The Wheatley school is extremely proud of Cara and Matthew for their commitment to excellence.
