The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named five Wheatley seniors as Semifinalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. The seniors earning this prestigious honor are:
- Krista Chen
- Luke Cuomo
- Mohammad Khanzada
- Ashley Kim
- Andrew Zuckerman
As Semifinalists, these students scored in the top one-half of one percent of the more than 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools who entered the program by taking the PSAT last year.
The semifinals are now eligible to compete for Merit Scholarship awards worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements and advance to the Finalist level of competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to become Finalists and approximately half of the Finalists will be selected as Merit Scholarship winners.
Congratulations and good luck to Krista, Luke, Mohammad, Ashley and Andrew as they continue on with this process.
