Wheatley Students Support Wounded Warrior Project

This quarter, students in Lauren Blum’s SWS course read Laurie Halse Anderson’s novel, The Impossible Knife of Memory. The novel’s narrator is the teenage daughter of a war veteran who is suffering from severe PTSD. As a result of their discussion of this book, the students were inspired to take action and contribute what they could to help veterans who suffer from this psychological affliction along with the more physical wounds of combat.

Students decided to raise awareness and funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. an organization that has been central to these very issues. Students spent the day in the lobby sharing information and raising funds. They also distributed informational flyers to all staff members, explaining their initiative and the work of the Wounded Warrior Project.
