On Friday, 13 March, the Wheatley Science Olympiad Team boarded a bus headed for Syracuse for the State Science Olympiad Competition. Over the course of Friday evening and Saturday, the students competed in 25 events testing their knowledge of various scientific and technological topics. Hosted by LeMoyne College, the top 60 schools (out of a record 800) from New York State had the opportunity to bring home the gold and earn a spot to the National Competition.
This year’s state team consisted of seniors Sarah Golden, Rohan Gulati, Samantha Lessen, Courtney Schwartz, and Seungmin Yi; juniors Jessie Cao, Robert Chang, Krista Chen, Arihant Jain, Chris Shen, Cindy Zhou and Andrew Zuckerman; sophomore Sahaj Gulati; and freshmen Vani Kumar, John Li, and Emily Wang.
Although the Wheatley team will not be attending Nationals, two medals were earned in the categories of Entomology (8th place for John and Jessie) and Green Generation (9th place for Arihant and Krista).
Congratulations to the team on an excellent season!
