DECA Students Earn an Invitation to the State Competition!

On Saturday, 10 January, 15 Wheatley students attended the Nassau County Regional DECA Competition. Accompanied by DECA Advisor Kristen Malik, students competed against 17 other Long Island School Districts in various Business-related categories. At the end of this regional competition, three Wheatley students (Josh Jacobs, Joey Dinetz and Justin Spar) qualified to move on to the next competition at the State level in their events.

Josh qualified to compete in the Marketing Management category; Joey and Justin qualified to compete in the Sports & Entertainment Marketing Team category. For both events, students were given a specific case study which they had 20-30 minutes to examine. They then had to use the information given to them to prepare for a role play type presentation.

The students were judged on their communication, analytical, and production skills. They had to present themselves in a professional manner and had to be able to support their ideas and answer detailed questions on the spot. The judges were all local business professionals who used their real world experience to choose the winners based on how successful they would be if it were an actual business presentation.

We are extremely proud of our qualifiers and are excited to see them compete at the DECA State competition! The competition will take place in Rochester, NY , on March 4th- 6th.
