Wheatley Brainstormers Succeed at Regional Competition!

On Saturday, 31 January, four members of the Wheatley Brainstormers Club participated in the Long Island Winter Regional Competition at Lynbrook High School hosted by the National History Bee & Bowl.  With advisor Joseph Crotty guiding the team throughout the process, the students did exceptionally well!

The team participated in four different competitions:

National History Bowl: A history bowl team consisting of Mohammad Khanzada, Luke Cuomo, Jake Williams, and Gabriel Besada went 5-0 during the National History Bowl Competition.  They suffered a heartbreaking defeat (losing by one question) in the quarter-finals, but placed 4th overall in the competition, and earned a place at the National History Bee & Bowl National Tournament that will be hosted in Washington D.C. from April 23-26, 2015.

National History Bee: Mohammad Khanzada participated in the National History Bee (individual competition) and earned a bronze medal (3rd place).  Mohammad also will be advancing to the national tournament in Washington D.C.

Gabriel, Jake, and Luke also participated as individual competitors in the U.S. Geography Olympiad, and all four students participated as individual competitors in the U.S. History Bee.  We are still awaiting the results of these individual events.

Congratulations to the team for their success and thanks to Mr. Crotty for leading the students!
