The Wheatley School. Virtually anyone who has attended or worked at our school has been asked: “Oh…is that a private school?” The name rings of a private boarding school, not a public high school. So how did the founders come up with the name of our school? Well…after the land was purchased and construction of the school had begun, students, community members and the new administration met to discuss the name of the Union Free District #2’s new high school. The announcement of the new school’s name, The Wheatley School, was made in a newsletter published on 16 December 1955.
