On Friday, 7 November, the Wheatley-Carle Place football team competed in its first playoff game in the nearly decade-long history of the combined program. Wheatley and Carle Place, two small high schools within a few miles of each other, field joint teams for football and boys lacrosse. The teams, fondly known as the Wild Frogs, permit interested students from each school to participate in these sports. This was the first time that the football team qualified for the playoffs, something that generated a lot of excitement in both communities.
The Wild Frogs played a tough Mineola team on Friday. After a second quarter touchdown by Andrew Hastings, the Wild Frogs led 6-0. With seconds remaining in the second quarter, however, Mineola scored a touchdown and extra point, putting them ahead 7-6. The Mustangs made necessary adjustments at half and scored the remaining 21 points of the game.
Congratulations to the team for a great season!
