The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named two Wheatley seniors as Semifinalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. The seniors earning this prestigious recognition are:
- Seungmin Yi
- Kuan Yu
As Semifinalists, these students scored in the top one-half of one percent of the more than 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools who entered the program by taking the PSAT last year.
The semifinals are now eligible to compete for Merit Scholarship awards worth $33 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements and advance to the Finalist level of competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to become Finalists and approximately half of the Finalists will be selected as Merit Scholarship winners.
Congratulations and good luck to Seungmin and Kuan!
