Wheatley’s School-Within-A-School (SWS) program provides students with an opportunity to learn, grow, and develop in a unique school setting. Open to students in grades 10-12, SWS is built on the idea that students learn best when they play a major role in creating their learning environment. SWS incorporates the required English courses plus social science electives during a three-period block at the end of the school day. The program is managed by students who take pride in learning responsibility for their own behavior while having respect for others. Students can choose from a wide variety of course modules taught by faculty members, community members and other students.
During the opening days of this school year, members of SWS participated in course sign-ups, summer reading activities and community building activities. We were also fortunate to have Shani Hogan (Class of 2014) return for a few days to paint part of the SWS room.
Thanks to Pat Clarke, SWS Faculty Moderator, for the photos from the opening days!
