Great News From Cooperstown!

On Sunday morning, Mr. McConaghy and Ms. Roberts accompanied seven Wheatley students to Cooperstown, NY, for the State finals of National History Day. These seven students qualified for this competition through their performance in the Long Island Regional competition in March. The students competing were:

  • Bonnie Lerman for her paper “Opposition to Vietnam: Civic Responsibility Redefined”
  • Anne Yan for her paper “Internment of Japanese Americans: Fear Brings Downfall of Liberty”

We are thrilled to report that Jared, Harris, Donna and Seung min earned 1st Place in the New York State Competition for their Central Park Five website. Additionally, Madison earned 2nd Place in the New York State Competition for her Pentagon Papers website. These two projects will advance to the National Finals in Maryland next month!

Congratulations to all of the participants, and a huge “Thank You” to Mr. McConaghy and Ms. Roberts for accompanying the students to Cooperstown!
