The Wheatley School’s Varsity Girls and Boys Fencing team enjoyed successful seasons. After a grueling regular season 12 Wildcat fencers qualified for the Nassau County Individual Championships at Cold Spring Harbor High School on February 1, 2014. Each fencer earned the opportunity to compete for the Nassau County Championship based on their performance throughout the regular season. The selected fencers would compete against the best fencers in Nassau County in their respective weapon; Foil, Epee, Sabre.
The following Wildcat fencers earned the right to compete for the title of Nassau County’s best; junior Captain Kuan Yu (foil), junior Captain Gabrielle Leccese (foil), senior Captain Ben Goldbaum (foil), senior Captain Samantha Siegler (foil), junior Hebah Hassan (epee), sophomore Parvati Pillai (epee), senior Chloe Tso (epee), junior Brian Gong (epee), junior Jared Rothstein (epee),senior Lauren Perry (sabre), junior Harris Wekselblatt (foil) and freshman Elizabeth Nolan (foil). After a grueling day of fencing two Wildcat fencers advanced to the finals, Captains Gabriella Leccese and Kuan Yu competed for the Individual Foil Championship in their respective gender. Both Wheatley fencers overcame the challenges associated with the all-day tournament. In the finals both fenced and competed to the best of their ability. Unfortunately, both underclassmen finished a close second and have already begun preparing for the championship next year.
