Thanks to the efforts of Dr. John Staudt and Mr. Brian McConaghy, the East Williston School District was awarded a grant from Long Island Traditions in order to continue the study of the sustainability of Long Island’s maritime culture. This grant is used to bring local traditional fishermen and baymen to Wheatley so that students can learn more about the changes to and the challenges facing this industry. This grant has been an essential part of Dr. Staudt’s College Regional Studies course, a dual enrollment course given in conjunction with Stony Brook University.
This is the second consecutive year in which Wheatley has earned this grant. You can read the press release here.
