Girls Varsity Soccer Comes up Short in LI Championship Game

In an exciting, tense game, Wheatley’s Girls Varsity Soccer team game up a little short in the Long Island Championship game on Saturday afternoon at Denton Avenue/Tully Field.

The game remained scoreless for virtually all of regulation. Center Moriches scored with under five minutes remaining in the game. This goal brought forth a ferocious attach on the part of the Wheatley Wildcats. Although they were not able to put the ball in the back of the net through this attack, a Center Moriches penalty with under one minute remaining in the game resulted in a successful penalty kick by Adena Bernot.

Although Wheatley had some wonderful opportunities during the overtime period, it was ultimately Center Moriches who came up with a goal with just seconds remaining in the second overtime period.

It was a tough loss, but the Wildcats played well in front of a boisterous crowd!
