For 12th Grade students across this country, October and November are months filled with deadlines and anxiety as they complete their college applications with the hope of being accepted at their dream school. Although it is challenging to help students strike a balance when they are in the middle of this process, we have other ways of helping students see that they are more than simply a grade point average (GPA) on a college application.
One of the activities we use to help students achieve a good perspective before they head into the college application process is the GPA Game. Designed for students and parents in the 10th and 11th grade, the activity brings together counselors and college admissions officers together in order to show that colleges value far more than simply a student’s grade point average.
First presented two years ago, this activity was cancelled last year because of Super Storm Sandy. Students and parents were happy to have it back!
