Members of Wheatley’s French Club attended a special French Hockey Night at the Nassau Coliseum on Thursday, January 13th. The event was organized in conjunction with the American Association of Teachers of French.
The game, which pitted the Islanders against the Ottawa Senators, featured pre- and post-game presentations by a reporter from a French-language daily newspaper in Ottawa, a member of the Québec Delegation in New York City as well as three special Islanders.
Students had the privilege of meeting and interacting in French with Islanders legend Mike Bossy, as well as current Islander players Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and Bruno Gervais. A special thumbs up to 8th grade students Michael Braunstein and Gabriella Schwartz who were brave enough to each ask the players a question in French in front of hundreds of other students.
Students were accompanied to the event by Mr. Henley, Wheatley’s French Club Advisor.
