A longstanding tradition at Wheatley is the ICU Assembly and Luncheon — both held the day before the winter recess. The purpose of the ICU Assembly is to celebrate the many cultures that make up The Wheatley School. Students do this through dance, song and other performances. During this assembly, students reach across cultural lines to perform with each other.
As part of the celebration, students bring in a food dish from their culture. Instead of the regular school lunch, our cafeteria is transformed into a dining hall that celebrates food dishes from all over the world. A lot of the food brought to school is donated to the Interfaith Nutritional Network, one of Wheatley’s longstanding partners. Student and faculty bands provide wonderful entertainment in the cafeteria.
As part of the festivities, Wheatley invites students from United Cerebral Palsy of Nassau County. These students are our guests for the day.
